Qixingjian refers to the dried whole plant of *Mosla chinensis* or *Mosla dianthera* (members of the Lamiaceae family); however, in some regions, the term may refer to other plants, so identification requires consideration of local medicinal practices. As a traditional Chinese medicinal herb, it possesses properties that dispel wind and release the exterior, promote diuresis to reduce swelling, and detoxify while relieving itching. Clinically, it is commonly used to treat conditions such as exogenous wind-cold, eczema with itching, and insect or snake bites; it can also be used externally as a mosquito repellent.

1. Functions and Effects
Dispelling wind and releasing the exterior
With a pungent and warm nature and containing volatile oils (such as carvacrol), it alleviates headaches and nasal congestion caused by wind-cold-type colds; it is often used in combination with herbs such as *Fangfeng* (Saposhnikovia root) and *Qianghuo* (Notopterygium root).

Promoting diuresis and reducing swelling
It alleviates edema by promoting urination and is suitable for conditions involving abdominal distension and difficult urination caused by internal damp-heat or summer-dampness; it can be used in conjunction with *Fuling* (Poria) and *Zexie* (Alisma rhizome).

Detoxifying and relieving itching
When applied externally-whether as a decoction wash or a crushed poultice-it relieves skin redness, swelling, and itching caused by eczema, scabies, or venomous insect bites; its antibacterial components exert an inhibitory effect on pathogens such as *Staphylococcus aureus*.
