| Introduction | Gentian is an herbaceous perennial plant that grows about 1-2 m (3.3-6.6 ft.) tall. The plant is found growing in grows in grassy alpine and sub-alpine pastures and prefers loamy and calcareous, moist and well-drained soil. The plant has nearly cylindrical, sometimes branched, and longitudinally wrinkled roots.
